One of New Avenue’s goals is to expand community inclusion and this past weekend we set up a stand at the Haverford Music Festival which attracted about 20,000 people. We promoted our mission of serving people with developmental disabilities along side of the stands set up by other businesses such as local banks and insurance brokers. It was a very rewarding experience to be in touch with general public and also to make contact with the people and special needs families we know. It was rewarding for our family members to see a few of their friends at the Music Festival. Promoting community inclusion requires efforts to be out in the community and to be active in community events. Our day at the Music Festival reinforced New Avenue’s philosophy that parents and special needs families must take the initiative to expand community inclusion, and that we can be successful at it.
