Well, today we start our gardening venture in earnest as we will be at the Media Farmer’s Market every Thursday through November. It has been quite a learning experience so far. Choosing seeds for plants that we want to grow was interesting as there are so many flowers and herbs. But we decided on sunflowers, basil, zinnias, carnations, wildflowers (of different varieties), and gladiolas. And we continue to research and make new choices. The key to this endeavor, as we now know, is to partner with a local greenhouse so that we can get our seedlings started in the winter so that we will have plants to sell in May.

  • We needed to get liability insurance.
  • We needed to get fencing and other tools for the garden plots at Rose Tree Media Community Gardens.
  • We needed to prepare the garden plots.
  • We planted seeds at the garden plots.
  • We water and weed the garden plots.
  • We needed to get tables and chairs for our spot at the market.
  • We got a banner and sign for our venture.
  • We got business cards and flyers.
  • We got water bottles since we’ll give this away free at the market.
  • We have our kids ready to help us at the market. They’ve also helped us do the planting and watering.
  • We still need to get a gazebo-type canopy so that we don’t get wet when it rains.

And we are still identifying things that we will need to do to make this opportunity successful.

We can use all the help we can get. So, please join us.
